How to add the Steady widget to your home screen

Updated 2026-10-06

The Steady widget puts today's session on your home screen, one tap away. It's free. It shows which Steady 28 day is next and your streak, and a tap opens Steady on that day's session, ready to start. If you'd rather it showed less, turn on Discreet widget in Settings.

Add the widget

  1. Touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen, then tap Widgets.
  2. Find Steady in the list and choose Steady · today's session.
  3. Drag it to where you want it. Most home screens let you resize it: touch and hold the widget, then drag its edges.

Menu names vary between phones and home-screen apps.

What it shows

  • A STEADY 28 label and the next Steady 28 day, for example Day 6 of 28 · Foundations, with the day's length. It's the same day the home screen shows: the lowest day you haven't done yet. See How does Steady 28 work?
  • Your streak, for example 3 days in a row, the same number as on the home screen. When your streak is 0, it says Start today. See How does my streak work?
  • After you finish all 28 days, it says Start a session instead of a day.

When the widget is small or your phone uses large text, it leaves out whole lines rather than cutting words off. The day comes first, then the streak, the week and the length. With TalkBack on, the widget reads everything it would show, then "Opens Steady."

The widget follows your phone's light or dark setting.

What a tap does

  • It opens Steady on today's Steady 28 day, ready to start. Nothing starts until you tap Start.
  • If today's day is part of Steady Pro (days 8 to 28) and you don't have Pro, it opens Steady 28, where the day shows a lock. See How to subscribe, cancel or restore Steady Pro.
  • After all 28 days are done, it opens the home screen, so you can pick any session.

The widget only opens Steady. You can't start, record or change a session from the widget itself.

The discreet widget

Turn on Discreet widget in Settings, under Privacy. The switch says: Shows only “Steady · today's session”, with no day or streak. The widget then shows Steady · today's session and nothing else, or only Steady when even that doesn't fit. A tap still opens today's session. It's off to begin with. See What's in Settings.

None of the widget's text names the exercise, in either version.

When it updates

The widget changes:

  • right after you finish a session,
  • shortly after midnight, when a new day starts,
  • after your phone restarts, after Steady updates, and when the date, time or time zone changes,
  • when you switch Discreet widget on or off.

The midnight update doesn't wake your phone, so it can happen a little later, the next time your phone is in use. The widget doesn't need any new permission.

Troubleshooting

The widget shows yesterday's day or streak

  1. Finish a session, or switch Discreet widget off and on again in Settings. Either one redraws the widget.
  2. Some phones hold back apps to save battery. In your phone's battery settings, find Steady and let it run without restrictions. Menu names vary.
  3. If it still doesn't change, remove the widget from your home screen and add it again.

A tap always opens the right day, even if the widget hasn't redrawn yet: Steady checks your sessions at the moment you tap.

I can't find Steady in the widget list

Some home-screen apps group widgets by app name, others show one long list. Search for "Steady" if your widget list has a search box. The widget is called Steady · today's session.

Does the widget show my routines?

No. It shows Steady 28 and your streak only. A session from Your routines counts towards your streak, so it changes the streak line.
