Pocket mode plays the vibration cues only, with no sound, so you can follow a session without looking at the screen or with the screen off. Turn it on in Settings, under Training, then start any session as usual.
Turn pocket mode on
- On the home screen, tap Settings at the top.
- Under Training, turn on Pocket mode.
- Tap the back arrow at the top to return to the home screen.
While pocket mode is on, Sound cues and Vibration cues are greyed out: sound is off and vibration is on. Voice cues is greyed out too: Steady never speaks in pocket mode, and the Voice on / Voice off switch isn't shown on the session screen. Turn pocket mode off to change them again.
Do a session in pocket mode
- On the home screen, tap Start day and its number on the Steady 28 card, or a session under Other sessions, then tap Start.
- Under the session shape, you see Pocket mode: vibration only, with Darken screen and Pause below it.
- Follow the vibration at each phase change. You can turn your phone's screen off with the power button, and the cues keep time until the end.
- When the last round ends, the session is recorded, even if the screen is still off.
While a session runs, a notification says "Steady session running". Tap it to return to Steady. It goes away when the session is paused, finishes or ends. On Android 13 or newer, the notification appears only if Steady may send notifications. The session keeps time either way.
Darken the screen
If you'd rather keep the phone on, tap Darken screen during a session. The screen goes black and its brightness turns down. Double-tap the screen to show it again. The screen also comes back on its own when the session is paused, finishes or ends.
When a session ends early
A session that stops before its last round isn't recorded. It ends early when:
- you tap Pause, then End session. You go back to the home screen.
- you press your phone's Back button or use the back gesture. You go back to the home screen.
- a phone or internet call comes in. When you return to Steady, you see Session ended. Tap Back to home.
- Steady is closed, for example by swiping it away in recent apps.
The cues stop with the screen off
Some phones limit apps in the background to save battery, and this can delay or stop the cues. If it happens, look for Steady in your phone's battery settings and let it run without restrictions. Menu names vary between phones.
