Where is my Steady data kept?
Your training is kept on this phone, and nowhere else unless you save a copy yourself. Steady has no account. Your training is never uploaded, and there is no Steady server. Your training history stays on this phone: it is excluded from Android cloud backup. Purchases go through Google Play.
What Steady stores
- Each session you finish: the day, the session type (for a Steady 28 day, which day it was; for one of your routines, which routine) and how long it is. The practice in How to do it isn't stored.
- Your settings: whether you've finished the first-run steps, whether sound cues, vibration cues, voice cues and pocket mode are on, whether Steady is hidden in the recent apps preview, whether the widget is discreet, whether Lock Steady is on and your Lock again choice, and your theme choice (System default, Light or Dark).
- Your reminders: up to three, each with its time, whether it's on, and its text, including any text you type yourself. Also whether Skip reminders once today is done is on, and your Remind me again once choice.
- Your Daily goal, if you set one, and your Streak choice (Every day, Days per week with your number, or Hide streak).
- Your routines, if you make any: up to 10, each with the name you type and its squeeze, hold and relax times and rounds. See How to make your own routine.
- Which Try the next level? cards you've hidden with Not now.
- Whether Google Play last said you own Steady Pro, and when it said so.
- If you start a free trial of Steady Pro, the date and time it ends, worked out from when you bought it and the trial's length, as Google Play reports them. Steady uses it to show the date in Settings and to remind you before the trial ends, and it notes once it has reminded you, so the reminder comes only once.
- Whether you've hidden the card that appears after Steady 28 day 3.
- Whether the Steady Pro screen has already opened by itself after your first session, so it doesn't open again.
- When Steady last asked Google Play to show its rating window, and in which version of Steady.
That's all. Steady doesn't ask for your name, email address or any other personal details. It never sees or stores your fingerprint, face, PIN, pattern or password. Your streak, today's count towards your daily goal, the numbers in History, your Steady 28 progress and the Try the next level? card are worked out from your finished sessions each time you open them. They aren't stored separately.
Where it's kept
- In Steady's own private storage on this phone.
- There's no account, no sign-up and no login.
- Your training is never uploaded. There's no Steady server, no ads and no analytics of your training.
- Your training history stays on this phone: it is excluded from Android cloud backup.
- The home-screen widget, if you add one, shows today's Steady 28 day and your streak, or only "Steady · today's session" when it's discreet. It never shows your routines' names. See How to add the Steady widget to your home screen.
- If you turn on Lock Steady, Steady opens only after your phone's own fingerprint, face or screen lock. Your phone does the check; Steady only learns whether it worked. See How to lock Steady with your fingerprint or screen lock.
- If you use Your data in Settings, Steady writes a spreadsheet (CSV), a PDF or a backup file to the place you choose in your phone's file picker, and reads a backup only from the file you choose. It asks for no permission and doesn't upload these files. If you choose a storage app, that app keeps the file under its own terms. See How to export, back up and restore your Steady data.
To see this summary in the app, tap Settings at the top of the home screen, then Privacy notice under Privacy. The notice about what Steady is appears under About on the same screen. See What's in Settings. Steady is intended for adults.
Purchases and Google Play
- If you buy Steady Pro, Google Play handles the payment. Steady never sees your card details.
- Steady asks Google Play only for prices and whether you own Pro. It keeps the last answer on this phone, so Pro keeps working for up to 7 days when Google Play can't be reached.
- Google's billing library, which is part of the app, may send Google technical data about purchases and how the billing library is working. Google's privacy policy applies to that data. This is why Android lists network access for Steady. Your training isn't part of it.
- If you turn on Voice cues, Steady gives only the phase words, such as "Squeeze", to your phone's own text-to-speech, and uses only a voice that's stored on the phone and needs no internet connection.
- Your training and the free sessions work without a connection. Buying, restoring and checking Pro need Google Play.
- After you've finished sessions on 3 different days, Steady may ask Google Play to show its rating window, at most once every 90 days and once per version. Your rating and any review go to Google Play, not to us, and Steady isn't told whether you left one.
- If you email us, for example about a refund, we receive your email address and what you write. We use it only to answer you.
Getting a new phone
- Steady's data isn't in Android cloud backup, so it can't be restored from your Google account.
- To take your history and routines with you, tap Save a backup under Your data in Settings on the old phone, then Restore from a backup on the new one. Your settings, reminders and Steady Pro aren't in the backup: restore Pro with Restore purchases. See How to export, back up and restore your Steady data.
- Copying directly from your old phone to your own new phone is still allowed. Your Steady history can come along this way if the old phone runs Android 12 or newer. From a phone on Android 11 or older, it doesn't. Whether it comes along also depends on the transfer method your phones use.
- If this phone is lost, reset or broken and you have no backup file, your history can't be recovered.
Troubleshooting
I set up a new phone and my history is gone
That's expected if the new phone was restored from a Google cloud backup, or if the old phone ran Android 11 or older, because Steady's data is excluded from cloud backup. If you saved a backup file with Save a backup, add it with Restore from a backup. Without one, the history can't be brought back, and your streak starts again from your next finished session.
